Green-lipped mussel is the building block for cartilage tissue. The green-lipped mussel (Perna canaliculus) is a sea shell that occurs on the coasts of New Zealand. Because of its meat, it is traded as a delicacy, and Maori use it as a staple food. Green lipped mussels are also a natural source of glucosaminoglycans. These long-chain amino sugars are important building blocks for cartilage tissue. Green lipped mussels also contain other complex carbohydrates, proteins, naturally bound minerals, vitamins and enzymes. The oily fraction has a high content of omega-3 fatty acids.
